About

Lin Cheung

I’m a UKCP registered psychotherapist working in private practice,   I moved to Chesterfield a few years ago where I now live and work.  I really like living on the edge of the Peak District and get tremendous enjoyment from the local countryside which is a source of inspiration for me.  I enjoy walking my dogs and in my spare time I paint.

I practice Transactional Analysis psychotherapy and counselling.  There are many different types of counselling and therapy, Transactional Analysis (TA) is a humanistic psychotherapy which means that it recognises the worth and value of each individual and their striving towards health and fulfilment.

Some of the ideas in TA that I think are important are that firstly that everyone has the ability to learn and change and that individuals are ultimately responsible for their own behaviour, thoughts and feelings. This idea is incredibly powerful as it offers great potential for us to make new decisions about our lives and carry out personal change.

Another central idea in TA is the concept of contractual working. This means I work with each person to help them identify their “wants” from counselling and therapy and these are our aims and goals. Therapy and counselling is not viewed as something that is “done to” someone but as a mutual process of engagement where we are both fully involved. And if you are interested in TA therapy have a look at my website http://www.chesterfieldcounselling.co.uk/  for more information.

This blog is chance to share ideas and thoughts with colleagues, friends and anyone who finds TA, therapy  and personal development interesting.

  1. Hi Lin,

Just wanted to say that your blog is great. I find it really thought-provoking and stimulating. Being a psychology graduate trying to get into psychotherapy within this difficult climate I have often wanted to give up, but your posts make me re-affirm my interest in therapy/psychology etc. Thank you.
